Slott vs Calendly: a meeting link is not a front desk
I get asked this one a lot, usually by a barber who's been sending clients a Calendly link because it was free and it mostly worked. So let me be straight about it: Calendly is a genuinely good tool. It's just built for a different job.
Calendly was made for meetings. Zoom calls, sales demos, office hours. One person picks a slot on your calendar and you both get an invite. If your work happens in a conference call, it's excellent. But a chair is not a conference call. You have a service menu with different lengths and prices. You have regulars who text "you got anything today?" while you're mid-fade. You have no-shows that cost you real money, and a phone that rings whether or not anyone's free to answer it.
That last part is the whole difference. A Calendly link only works when the client goes to it. Slott answers. A client calls or texts your business number, the AI picks up, checks your real availability, and books them — mid-cut, after hours, on your day off. Nobody gets sent a link to figure out on their own; the appointment just gets made.
The second difference is what happens around the appointment. Slott is service-first: your menu, your hours, deposits collected upfront to protect your time (Standard and up), automatic confirmations and text reminders, and on Pro, cancelled slots the AI refills on its own. Calendly can take a payment through Stripe or PayPal on its paid plans and send SMS reminders from a monthly credit pool, but no-show protection for a service business isn't what it was built around.
Now, the money part, and I'll be straight because it's the first thing people check: Calendly has a real free plan and Slott doesn't. If all you need is a link where someone picks a slot, Calendly free wins that fight and I won't pretend otherwise. What Slott is instead is the cheapest way to put an actual AI receptionist on your business number — voice AI that answers the call, AI that handles the texts, books the client, and pops the appointment right into your calendar. That category usually costs a lot more than $19 a month, and it starts with a free first week so it can prove itself on your own missed calls.

Where Calendly beats me, honestly: free. If your booking needs are meeting-shaped and a link does the job, take the free plan and enjoy it. And its integration catalog for office software is much deeper than mine.
But a link doesn't answer the phone. If what's costing you money is calls and texts going unanswered while you work, Slott is the cheapest way anyone will sell you an AI that picks up, books the client, and puts it on your calendar — and the first week costs nothing to find out.
